So maybe you've seen my creative work; the designs, and photoshoots. Maybe you know that I ghostwrite, or which brands I'm managing on social media, if we're really close. But how did I get here? What motivates me, empowers me, and keeps me focused? I'll let you in: I seek wisdom from well-written individuals who are not afraid to share their successes, failures, and research.

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. It could be because my job is so digitally focused, or because I believe everyone needs an introverted hobby, or simply because I am genuinely addicted to learning and growing —-but suffice to say, you can usually find a minimum of three books on my nightstand at all times.

Below is a broken-down list totaling 16 different books over three categories:

  • Three books center on friendship (although almost every book can probably improve this area of our lives to some degree). The authors in this list left me emboldened to embrace the murky waters that friendships and life, at whatever age, can bring.

  • Four books teach about anti-racism; crucial reads for development as an ally in understanding the liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other; how racism intersects with class, culture, and geography; and the role that we all play as racists and anti-racists every day.

  • Nine books are shelved under a list I'm calling "Living Intentionally." Common themes throughout the nine writings under this list are:

    • Tapping into your best self creatively, professionally, and personally.

    • How to navigate living a life of purpose with passion, discernment, and motivation.

I've had the idea to share a small part of my home library with you for some time now; however, in all honesty, it feels a little more vulnerable than I was anticipating. This collection of nonfiction books has had a significant impact on the way I live life today. These writings are the ones that have the most ink from my pens, and some I make a point to come back to over and over again. They are driving forces in how I live and think about the world around me. I hope you find inspiration to read one or some of these (my honest reviews of some can be found in the lists of the bookshop)

If you've already read a book on the list, let me know your thoughts! When you do read a book on the list, come back and join the conversation!

happy reading,

ree
